A Latimeriidae az izmosúszójú halak (Sarcopterygii) osztályának bojtosúszójúhal-alakúak (Coelacanthiformes) rendjébe, ezen belül a Latimerioidei alrendjébe tartozó család. Az osztályán belül az egyetlen család, amelyben élő fajok is vannak.
