Translation problem[szerkesztés]

Hi. I am a user from the German Wikipedia and I am currently writing an article about the Fidesz politician Róbert Juharos. I have a question regarding his academic education. In one source, I found the following sentence:

„1990-ig a Kölni Egyetem és Fachhochschule hallgatója, majd a Századvég Politikai Iskolán és a Katolikus Akadémia szociológiai szakán tanult.“

Am I assuming correctly that „Katolikus Akadémia“ refers to the Pázmány Péter Catholic University? Also: Can anyone of you find out when, where, under whose supervision and about what topic Juharos did his Ph.D.? I just found the following information from 1998:

„Jelenleg a Budapesti Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetem jogász-szakközgazdász posztgraduális szakának hallgatója.”

I assume that sentence refers to the Corvinus University of Budapest, correct? Best regards – Florean Fortescue vita 2021. április 30., 20:20 (CEST)[válasz]

answer
@Florean Fortescue:
Here are the answers to your two(+1) questions:
1. "Catholic Academy"?
I used Google Search - no clear answer!
  • Catholic Academy organized by the Faculty of Theology of the Babes-Bolyai University of Romania: excluded results.
https: //ersekseg.ro/hu/content/katolikus-akademia-4
(I did not find an introductory text about the Academy itself. I think only with religious topics deals.)
  • The Transylvanian Catholic Academy (Erdélyi Katolikus Akadémia [EKA], Oradea / Cluj-Napoca) was in operation from 1929 to 1938: therefore it can also be ruled out.
http://lexikon.katolikus.hu/E/Erdélyi%20Katolikus%20Akadémia.html
  • The operation of the St. Stephen's Academy of Sciences (Szent István Tudományos Akadémia [SzIT]) is divided into two periods: 1915-1950 and 2003-present. This is also an excluded hit.

  • National Institute of Pastors (Országos Lelkipásztori Intézet [OLI]) - Catholic Academy of Social Sciences, contact:
http://www.kife.hu/hu/tagszervezet/oli-katolikus-tarsadalomtudomanyi-akademia
One possible correct match (?)
  • Another possible hit is Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem [PPKE]).
This university has a faculty of social sciences and within it has an institute dealing with sociology:
https://btk.ppke.hu/karunkrol/intezetek-tanszekek/szociologiai-intezet
THIS IS THE MOST PECIFICABLE RESULT (I think "Catholic Academy" might be a contemporary, perhaps sloppy, earlier name.)
2. "Corvinus University of Budapest"?
YES, this is the name of the university that still exists today.
3. I did not find any information on how Ph.D. Perhaps the result of postgraduate training.
The Hungarian title system (which was transformed into a Western model in the 1990s) is still unclear today - many still hold the old title of 'university doctorate (dr. Univ.)'. This title has been recognized as a Ph.D by many (out of fairness for their internship).
(I created this answer using Google Translate.)

Nagyon szépen köszönöm!. :-) – Florean Fortescue vita 2021. május 1., 23:15 (CEST)[válasz]

Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem #Története confirms that “Budapesti Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetem” is the former name of Corvinus between 1990 and 2000.

I'm more confused by “Katolikus Akadémia”. Babeș–Bolyai Tudományegyetem, Római Katolikus Teológia Kar at least confirms that Babeș–Bolyai has catholic theology education, but I don't know if the name refers to that. Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem says that Pázmány is a university only since 1992, the catholic theology education was organized under ELTE before that. Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem Hittudományi Kar says that between 1983 and 1992, the theology education part was called “Pázmány Péter Hittudományi Akadémia”, which explains the word “Akadémia”. I recommend trying to find out where Juharos Róbert lived at that time, because the location should disambiguate between the two. The short summary at https://static.valasztas.hu/ve/j51/j51-iwO23T9KOiUHEiwheI0mRt-ojE.htm (dated to 1998) specifically says “Iskoláit Németországban és Budapesten végezte”, which means Babeș–Bolyai is out. It might open the possibility for some other institution in Germany. However, it also says “1990-ig a Kölni Egyetem és Fachhochschule hallgatója”, which might be all there is to Germany.

Failing that, since Juharos Róbert is an active representative in the local government of Budapest 8, you may be able to contact him directly through internet or telephone and ask questions.
