A jama a jóga rendszerének első két lépcsőfoka.
A jóga rendszere nyolc tagot vagy lépcsőfokot foglal magába: :jama, nijama, ászana (testhelyzetek, testtartások), pránájáma (légzéstechnikák), pratjahara ("Befelé tekintés"), dhárana ("Koncentráció"), Dhjána ("Meditáció"), Szamádhi(transz, az abszolút való megismerése). Az első két lépcsőfok a jama és a nijama, az erkölcsi tiltások és szabályok rendszere.
- ahimsza (अहिंसा): Nonviolence, non-harming other living beings[1]
- szatja (सत्य): truthfulness, non-falsehood[1][2]
- asztéja (अस्तेय): non-stealing[1]
- brahmacsarja (ब्रह्मचर्य): chastity,[2] marital fidelity or sexual restraint[3]
- aparigraha (अपरिग्रहः)
- ahimsza (अहिंसा): Nonviolence, non-harming other living beings[1]

- Śauca (शौच): purity, cleanliness
