• 2014: Indonesia to Host Miss World Contest in 2014, Bali Governor
  

Indonesia will host the Miss World competition in 2014. The news was broken by Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika during a speech to open the 61st World Real Estate Congress (FIABCI) at Hotel Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua, Bali on Thursday.
“In 2014 the Miss World contest is going to be held in Bali,” Pastika said. According to Pastika, the resort island will also a host a number of other international events such as the 2011 ASEAN Summit and the 2013 APEC Conference. Pastika used the opportunity to promote tourism in Bali by saying Bali had already gained another nickname. “Bali is known as the Island of Gods and Island of Peace and Democracy, now Bali is the island of Love. Julia Roberts, in the movie Eat, Pray and Love found true love in Bali,” he said. Pastika's persistence in promoting Bali earned him praise from Vice President Boediono. “If you need a marketing director, Pak Governor is the right man. He has the knack for marketing,” Boediono said.

• 2011:MWO announced that 2011 Miss World Pageant will be held in Erdos. Erdos is located in China’s Inner Mongolia.

• 2011: (0701)The President of Miss Universe Organisation (MUO), Paula Shugart, has asked Khanh Hoa province to host the 2011 Miss Universe pageant. Meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the central province of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Le Xuan Than on June 30, Paula Shugart said her organisation has selected Nha Trang as the venue for next year’s contest and to celebrate 60 years of the establishment of the organisation. “We are waiting for permission from Khanh Hoa province and the Vietnamese government,” she said. Than welcomed the organisation’s proposal, saying he believes that Khanh Hoa is capable of hosting the event, as it successfully hosted the Miss Universe in 2008. He told the MUO and its partner to draw up detailed plans including funding for the event to submit to the provincial People’s Committee. Once approved by the committee, the plans will be submitted to the Government for consideration. VNA/VOVNews

• Crowns: The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA crowns were designed by Sarah Coventry. -The Miss USA and Miss Universe crowns used in 1958 were reportedly valued at US$500,000. They consisted of approximately 1,000 Oriental cultured and black pearls set in a solid gold and platinum frame, and weighed 1.25 lbs. -The Miss USA and Miss Universe winners back then wore their crowns for only 3 times during their reign-- their coronation, their successor's coronation, and one other unspecified time. -When the crown was worn, the titleholder was shadowed by a bodyguard. Needless to say, the titleholders were not allowed to keep their crowns. -The current crowns (Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA) are all made of genuine rhinestones, and are still worth a significant amount, but not as much as the 1958 crowns. Sonam Choden Retty is the new Miss Bhutan. September 26: It was a night of entertainment, prestige and glamour all rolled up into one. The 2nd Miss Bhutan beauty pageant had it all. Sonam Choden Retty was crowned Miss Bhutan 2010 at a contest held in Thimphu last evening. Kinley Yangden Dorji from Thimphu took the position of the 1st runner up and Tenzin Norden from Haa was the 2nd runner up. The 18 contestants began the evening captivating the audience. The judges were then put to the test as each contestant completed the first three segments; Traditional Dress, Evening Gown and Talent. After the first three rounds, the 18 contestants were shortlisted to five. Prior to introducing the top five some of the contestants were selected for Miss Congeniality and Miss Beautiful Skin, Miss Natural Beauty and Miss Talented among others. The top finalists were then announced in random order. The final segment of the Question and Answer involved asking each contestant a different question by the panel of judges. • Miss Chile World 2001 Christianne Balmelli Fournier will NOT be representing Chile in MU2002.
  A new organization called Una Reina Para El Mundo holds a separate pageant to select Miss Mundo Chile. Christianne won that organization's 1st ever pageant on September 25 last year. The Chilean MW franchise is now owned by Daniela Campos, Ms. Mundo Chile '98 and MW98 semi-finalist. It is co-owned by Millaray Palma.
  The Miss Verano Chile (Miss Summer Chile) now selects Chile's MU representative. Daniela Campos also owns the Chilean MU franchise. The pageant began only last year, with Carolina Gamez Gallardo emerging as the winner. Carolina was crowned on February 13, 2001.

Cook-szigetek

• The Miss Cook Islands 2002 pageant is set this Saturday, February 23, 2002. The winner will go to MU2002 in May and Miss South Pacific 2002 in November. The Cook Islands is back after a 2-year absence. The last woman to represent this Southern Pacific nation was Tina Marie Vogel, who participated in MU99.

The local pageant organization has commissioned Mrs. Dawn Johnson (Eva Ekvall's mom, who happens to be a resident of the Caribbean island-nation) to coordinate and assist in the selection of this year's queen. Eva, herself, has volunteered to help her mom with the process. According to Eva, this is an opportunity to share and use her many experiences as former Miss Venezuela.

Having missed the competition in 2009 as a result of financial problems the committee has announced the return of Miss Cayman for 2010/11. Members said the pageant is back on track and will take place on Saturday, 25 September at the Lion’s Centre when the new ‘face’ of the Cayman Islands will be selected to represent the country at Miss World, Miss universe and as a tourist ambassador for the destination. The competition is open to women between18-25 and those interested in entering are invited to attend the preliminary Meet & Greet session scheduled for 14 July at Abacus restaurant in Camana Bay, starting at 6 pm.
“Earning the title of Miss Cayman Islands is a major accomplishment for any young woman fortunate enough to win it” said Lynn Bodden-Smatt, the recently elected Committee Chair. “That individual gains a fully paid educational sponsorship, a car and many other wonderful prizes in addition to having one of the most memorable experiences of her lifetime. Our competition is centered on a “Beauty with a Purpose” theme so contestants select a charity as their platform and work with that organization to foster public awareness and generate private sector support for its cause.”
High school graduates between the ages of 18 and 25 who are single, of good character and possess charm, poise, personality, and have beauty of face and figure are encouraged to enter. Full details of the selection criteria are included on application forms which can be downloaded from www.misscaymanislands.ky or accessed through the Ministry of Tourism.
Other planned events on the action packed calendar include the Platform Launch on August 21 and the black-tie fund-raiser, known as the Minister’s Ball on 18 September.
The Ministry of Tourism holds the franchise for both the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions so the winner represents The Cayman Islands at both; the 2010 Miss World event on 23 October and next year’s Miss Universe.
