English: Floor plan of the Mastaba of Mereruka in Saqqara, Egypt. Designed and drawn in comparison of different existing plans and descriptions.

Explanations:

  • Entry from the south side (arrow)
  • A1–A21, beige shading: rooms for Mereruka himself
  • B1–B6, green shading: rooms for Mereruka’s wife Watet-khet-hor
  • C1–C6, red shading: rooms for Mereruka’s son Meryteti, later occupied by the older son Pepyankh, then dedicated to Meryteti again (see the Osirisnet description)
  • D, light grey shaded: remains of a temenos wall with a offering place for Khenu, another son of Mereruka
  • AT, BT, CT, red outline: outlines of the burial chambers below the mastaba for Mereruka himself (AT), his wife (BT) and his son (CT), accessible through the access shafts from room A11 (for AT) resp. from the roof of the mastaba (for BT via shaft B6, for CT via shaft C6).
  • Dotted lines with ordinary color shading: passages that were cut through the walls later but still during the time of the building of the mastaba (A1 to A2, A9 to A16)
  • Dotted lines with light grey shading: passages that were cut through the walls far after the completion of the mastaba and closed again today (A3 to A10, A9 to A17).

Some hints:

  1. The numbering of the rooms varies a bit from book to book; therefore we use the original numbering from the 1893 excavations that are the common base of the differing modern room number systems. In spite of some little oddities (A17 and A18 are just one room together) this original numbering is still the most useful for practical reasons. The numbers C6, D and AT, BT, CT were added by myself.
  2. The doors and passages are, as traditional in floor plans, intentionally separated with thin lines from the rooms they link, because their lintel and in some cases also their threshold is lower resp. higher than the ceiling resp. the floor of the rooms. If you don’t like these lines please make a copy of this drawing and remove them in the copy only.

Legende:

  • Eingang von Süden (Pfeil)
  • A1–A21, beige grundiert: Räume für Mereruka selbst
  • B1–B6, grün grundiert: Räume für Mererukas Gattin Watet-khet-hor
  • C1–C6, rot grundiert: Räume für Mererukas Sohn Meryteti, später von dessen älterem Halbbruder Pepyankh beansprucht, dann wieder Meryteti gewidmet (siehe Beschreibung auf Osirisnet)
  • D, grau grundiert: Reste einer Temenos-Mauer mit einer Opferstelle für Khenu, einen weiteren Sohn Mererukas
  • AT, BT, CT, roter Umriss: Umrisse der unterirdischen Grabkammern für Mereruka selbst (AT), seine Frau (BT) und seinen Sohn (CT), zugänglich durch den Schacht in Raum A11 (für AT) bzw. vom Dach der Mastaba aus (für BT durch Schacht B6, für CT durch Schacht C6).
  • Gestrichelt, aber normal grundiert sind ursprünglich wohl nicht vorgesehene, aber noch z.Z. der Erbauung der Mastaba hinzugefügte Durchgänge (A1 zu A2, A9 zu A16).
  • Gestrichelt und hellgrau grundiert sind in späteren Zeiten durch die Wände gebrochene und heute wieder vermauerte Durchgänge (A3 zu A10, A9 zu A17).

Einige Hinweise:

  1. Die Nummerierung der Räume variiert in der Literatur etwas; wir benutzen hier daher die originale Nummerierung nach den Ausgrabungen von 1893, die den neueren, in unterschiedlicher Weise abweichenden Nummerierungen zu Grunde liegt und trotz einiger Seltsamkeiten (A17 und A18 bilden eigentlich zusammen einen Raum) zu Referenzwecken am praktischsten ist. Die Planziffern C6, D und AT, BT, CT habe ich ergänzt.
  2. Türen und Durchgänge sind, wie es in Grundrisszeichnungen traditionell üblich ist, absichtlich durch dünne Linien von den angrenzenden Räumen getrennt, da ihr Sturz und tlw. auch ihre Schwellen tiefer bzw. höher liegen als die Decke bzw. die Böden der Räume. Sollte Sie dies stören, so können Sie gerne eine Kopie dieser Zeichnung unter anderem Namen erstellen und hochladen, ich bitte aber, diese Zeichnung in diesem Punkt nicht zu ändern.
