Potrivit anexei nr. 1.2, stema comunei Ciugud se compune dintr-un scut triunghiular cu marginile rotunjite, tăiat în bandă de un brâu undat de argint. În partea superioară, în stânga, în câmp roşu, se află un vas de ceramică fisurat de argint, tip borcan, cu toarta în dreapta. În vârful scutului, în dreapta, în câmp albastru, se află un mănunchi de şase spice de grâu de aur. Scutul este timbrat de o coroană murală de argint cu un turn crenelat. Semnificaţiile elementelor însumate: Brâul undat reprezintă râul Mureş, care străbate localitatea. Vasul de ceramică simbolizează cel mai mare sit arheologic din prima epocă a fierului, sec. XI-VII înainte de Hristos, descoperit în urma săpăturilor din perioada 1978-1987, întins pe o suprafaţă de peste 20 ha. Mănunchiul de spice evocă una din ocupaţiile de bază ale locuitorilor, agricultura, iar numărul lor indică numărul satelor componente ale localităţii. Coroana murală cu un turn crenelat semnifică faptul că localitatea are rangul de comună.
