    • You shouldn´t generalize all Rusyns. First at all, "Rusyns" is the old name of Ukrainians. Then, all Ukrainians are Rusyns. Of course some boikos and lemkos call themselves "Rusyns", but a lot identify as Ukrainians. About Hutsuls, they identify as Ukrainians, some as just Hutsuls and very few as "Rusyns". Indeed some call themselves "Rusnaks", that is not the same as "Rusyns". Some scholars say that Ukrainian identity is new and ut was addopted in the XX century. It is not totally truth. I myself am descendant of Hutsul and Boiko immigrants that came here (to Argentina) in 1897 and already in that time they identified themselves as Ukrainians. In fact, first Ukrainian association of immigrants in Argentina were founded by immigrants from Boikivshchyna, Transcarpathia and Hutsulshchyna.

I agree that it exists a Rusyn ethnic group, but to call all lemkos, boikos, Hutsuls and Dolynians is a great mistake. Some scholrs say that Ukrainian census falsified dates; it recognizes just 10.000 Rusyns in Ukraine. But nobody says and write that at the same time Rusyns organizations made two paralell census in Transcarpathia and founded that only 6.500 persons identified thenslves as Rusyns, less that Ukrainian census! Nobody says that Cambridge University made a research about Rusyns in Transcarpathia in the '90s and only 9% identify as Rusyns. Nobody says that when in 2007 Transcarpathian Provincial Council recognized Rusyns as minority, Rakhiv (Rahó) District Council (District where more than 90% of population is Hutsul) complained this resolution and asked to eliminate it, asserting that Hutsuls are Ukrainians. Nobody makes the question about if they want teritorial autonomy in Ukraine, why don´t they ask the same in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania? Why Polish, Slovak, Hungarian and Romanian goverments recognize them as ethnic group different to Ukrainian one, but none of then talk about territorial autonomy in their respective countries? To say and to write that Boikos "don´t recognize themselves as Ukrainians" or that all they (Lemkos, Dolynians, Hutsuls and Boikos) are Rusyns is to genetaliza and is not recognize the right of a lot of Lemkos, Dolynians, Boikos and Hutsuls to identify as Ukrainians. I´m descendant of immigrants of these groups and I know how they identified already in 1897: as Ukrainians. Excuse me for writting this text in English, but I don´t understand Hungarian language. – 186.18.132.150 (vita) 2009. augusztus 7., 10:40 (CEST)Válasz
