Jókai Mór[szerkesztés]

Szia! Miért angolul írsz szerkesztési összefoglalót? Ez magyar nyelvű enciklopédia. – Pagonyfoxhole 2010. május 5., 01:23 (CEST)Válasz

Hi, I have visited Buda, Pest, Győr, Szentendre, and Szeged, but the only words I understand in your sentence are "angolul", "magyar", and "enciklopédia". Sorry!
Varlaam vita 2010. május 5., 01:45 (CEST) (in Toronto)Válasz

Er, in that case, wouldn't it be wiser for you not to edit Huwiki? There are so many other Wikis to attend to. – Pagonyfoxhole 2010. május 5., 18:45 (CEST)Válasz

No, not necessarily. I'm a polyglot. I have edits in 50 or so languages. In languages I read well, I can edit the actual content. In others, I can edit the formatting, according to local style rules, or the Interwiki links, without having a full understanding of the language.
A Hungarian sentence ends with a period. Like other European languages. I can add a missing period if I am certain I am reading a full sentence without fully understanding the content of that sentence.
Hungarian of course is Finno-Ugric, so I am very careful when editing Hungarian.
But I have visited the country and I am interested in the language and the culture and so on.
So that makes me an interested amateur.
Have you experienced genuine problems from non-Hungarian speakers editing huwiki?
Regards, Varlaam vita 2010. május 5., 19:33 (CEST) (in Toronto, where we have many Hungarians)Válasz
P.S.
With Jókai Mór, he wrote a novel about the 1848 Revolution which became a film. That affects one of my enwiki pages, List of films based on military books.

A Le Monde listája az évszázad 100 legemlékezetesebb könyvéről[szerkesztés]

Hi,

With respect to the article titled A Le Monde listája az évszázad 100 legemlékezetesebb könyvéről: There can be arguments as to how valuable this list is to the Hungarian audience. Apparently you find it more important than I do, and that's fine. However there can be no argument about one thing: this is the Hungarian Wikipedia, where editors and readers expect articles to be in Hungarian. Please do not insert articles here with extensive English-language passages. It is just as inappropriate as a Hungarian article would be in the English Wikipedia. We welcome all editors who can produce quality Hungarian content, but we really don't need people dropping in "very important" English passages, expecting huwiki editors to translate them into Hungarian. This behavior is just presumptious and demeaning.

Thank you for your cooperation.

--Malatinszky vita 2013. július 5., 05:08 (CEST)Válasz

You are joking, right?
Seriously. You are joking?
"extensive English-language passages". Extensive? It's an introductory paragraph.
I translated that from French into English, German, Spanish and Italian myself.
I started translating that into Latin and Portuguese, but readers at lawiki and ptwiki translated it before I was able to finish.
At most other projects of Wikipedia, someone translates that page in 1 day after I create the page. Maybe 2 days.
In some projects, they don't care about the >ref< so they just delete everything and keep the book list.
But complaining about the introductory paragraph is ridiculous.
If someone can't translate from English to Hungarian, then you have the same text in German, French, Czech, Polish, Russian, Croatian, whatever is easiest. It's the same text 40 times.
Delete the introduction. I don't care.
Jesus Christ, Varlaam vita 2013. július 5., 05:54 (CEST)Válasz
Equating the lingua franca of the world (English) with Hungarian makes you look petty and silly, and makes me look like an internationalist hero.
You could have translated the introduction yourself in the time you wasted complaining to me about nothing.

Fölösleges sablon[szerkesztés]

Szia! Ez a sablon:Tick szerintem semmiben nem különbözik a zöldpipától, ami rendesen dokumentálva és kategorizálva van, és beszédes a neve is. Inkább törölném. Bináris ide Kelt: Wikipédia,  2014. január 12., 22:51 (CET)Válasz

Again, your templates wre deleted as they have already existed as Sablon:Zöldpipa and Sablon:Pirosiksz. Please don't create templates on names other than Hungarian and try to find templates before creating them again. You could use for example interwikis for that. Thank you. Bináris ide Kelt: Wikipédia,  2014. január 12., 22:59 (CET)Válasz

Please change cross to pirosiksz in Minden idők 100 legjobb krimije. Thank you. Bináris ide Kelt: Wikipédia,  2014. január 12., 23:01 (CET)Válasz

Sorry.
But I spent a lot of time looking for {{Tick}} and {{Cross}} here and could not find them.
Huwiki needs to do a better job of licking templates to each other, and linking those templates to other projects.
Cheers, Varlaam vita 2014. január 12., 23:06 (CET)Válasz
I'm sorry that our humble native Wikipedia can't live up to your expectations, Bwana. Allow me to quote this from the en:Template:Tick page, though: "This template inserts a green tick mark (check mark) inline in the text. It is not for use in articles." The emphasis is all mine, but it's all for your convenience. --Malatinszky vita 2014. január 13., 02:35 (CET)Válasz

No, I don't think. Both templates were linked to enwiki, and you have the possibility to ask. If you click on Sablon:Zöldpipa, you will find an excellent documentation there. No wiki should be prepared to users who don't speak that language and want to write articles in that language anyway. The problem is not with huwiki's work. Bináris ide Kelt: Wikipédia,  2014. január 12., 23:11 (CET)Válasz

Sorry, but you are wrong.
The problem is with huwiki.
{{Zöldpipa}} is linked to an English template with the word "resolved" after it.
That is not the same as Zöldpipa.
Zöldpipa should be linked to {{Tick}}.
If huwiki had linked Zöldpipa correctly to enwiki, then I would have found Zöldpipa, and I would have been using it for weeks. Weeks.
Best regards, Varlaam vita 2014. január 12., 23:55 (CET)Válasz
If you had asked where it is, then we would have shown you Zöldpipa, and you would have been using it for weeks. Weeks.
Please use this forum if you will ask something: Wikipédia:Kocsmafal (egyéb).

I really dislike the xenophobia I see here.
Xenophobia is contrary to the spirit of Wikipedia.
When I drove through Hungary 25 years ago, I didn't have any problem with the Hungarians I met.
Actually it was 27 years ago.
The Hungarian pianist Schiff András recently said that he will not be visiting Hungary again, because he does not like the attitudes he is seeing in Hungary.
Is he wrong?
Varlaam vita 2014. január 13., 00:11 (CET)Válasz

I set up the Romanian translation of my page before the Hungarian translation.
Why?
Because I was able to find how to say Tick and Cross in Romanian.
So I was able to finish that page first.
I found what I needed in rowiki. I could not find the same thing in huwiki.
So I built my own templates.
That is all I am trying to say.
This is not a big criticism. It is a small, small, little criticism.
Cheers, Varlaam vita 2014. január 13., 00:20 (CET)Válasz

You can't expect the same system of templates here and on enwiki. There is only one link possibility on Wikidata, but {{Zöldpipa}} has more than one function: Resolved, Check mark, Done,...
Could you please first ask if you need something next time? You could prevent a lot of work for you and for us as well.

EZ ITT A MAGYAR WIKIPÉDIA. ELVÁRJUK, HOGY A SZERKESZTŐINK TUDJANAK MAGYARUL.

--Malatinszky vita 2014. január 12., 23:24 (CET)Válasz

Have you heard of Google Translate ?

This is what you just said:

This is HUNGARIAN WIKIPEDIA. I expect to be able to HUNGARIAN to the editor.

And do 100s of people who do not speak Hungarian create articles in Hungarian?

There is me, with my 2 articles in Hungarian.

Is there anyone else? Anyone at all? No? That is what I thought.

Other projects welcome people using their language.

Cheers, Master Editor III Varlaam vita
Next month I am Master Editor IV.

last request[szerkesztés]

Varlaam, I asked you not to edit huwiki if you don't understand Hungarian. Now you are disrupting work in huwiki. Please desist, or I'll block you here indefinitely. Thank you. --Pagonyfoxhole 2014. január 13., 01:15 (CET)Válasz

Invitation to Medical Translation[szerkesztés]

Medical Translation Project

Invitation to the Medical Translation Project – a joint Wikimedia project started by the English language WikiProject Medicine!

Thank you for being one of the top Medical editors! I want to use this opportunity to introduce you to our most ambitious project.

We want to use Wikipedia to spread knowledge where it will be used. Studies have shown that Wikipedia is the most common resource of medical knowledge, and used by more people than any other source! We want high quality articles, available to everyone, regardless of language ability. It isn't right that you would need to know a major language to get hold of quality content!

That is why in the recent Ebola crisis (which is still ongoing) we translated information into over 70 languages, many of them small African languages. This was important, as Wikipedia was also shown to be the biggest resource used in Africa for information on Ebola! We see tremendous potential, but also great risks as our information needs to be accurate and well-researched. We only translate articles that have been reviewed by medical doctors and experts, so that what we translate is correct. Many of our translators are professionals, but many are also volunteers, and we need more of you guys – both to translate, but also to import finished translations, and fix grammatical or other style issues that are introduced by the translation process.

Our articles are not only translated into small languages, but also to larger ones, but as of 2015 this requires users to apply for an article to be translated, which can be done here (full articles, short articles) with an easy to manage google document.

So regardless of your background head over to our main page for more information, or to our talk page and ask us questions. Feel free to respond in any language, we will do our best to find some way to communicate. No task is too small, and we need everyone to help out!

I hope you will forgive me for sending this message in English – we also need translators for messages like this, and above all local language community managers, which act as a link between us and you. Also I can not reply on your talk page, so please go to our talk page!

Thank you for helping medical information on Wikipedia grow! -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 15:37, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
