Au dos de la carte " J. Bilibine - "Princes de l'ancienne Russie" Série A n°3 - Wladimir Monomaque (1113-1125) Copyright by Edition Sté "N.P.KARBASNIKOFF" 23, rue de Richelieu, Paris 1er"

Ivan Bilibine émigre en 1920 en Egypte mais se fixe en 1925 à Paris où il loue un grand atelier et un appartement boulevard Pasteur à Paris. Bientôt il achète un terrain à la Favière près de Toulon où il cotoie l'été Milioukov, Sacha Tcherny. Peintre et décorateur il travaille pour l'Opéra russe et illustre de nombreux livres (dont des albums du père Castor). En 1934, il fait la connaissance de l'ambassadeur de l'URSS à Paris, M. Potemkine. Il travaille pour l'ambassade soviétique en peignant un décor puis part pour Leningrad avec sa femme en 1936. Il y travaille pour l'opéra, enseigne, réalise des décors. Il meurt lors du blocus de Léningrad pendant la guerre.
