A Penion a csigák (Gastropoda) osztályának Sorbeoconcha rendjébe, ezen belül a kürtcsigafélék (Buccinidae) családjába tartozó nem.[4][5][6][7]
A Penion-fajok Délkelet-Ausztrália és Új-Zéland endemikus élőlényei. Az árapály térségtől a mélyebb részekig megtalálhatók.
